Skillshare.com
If Udemy is a website aimed at helping professionals reach a wide range of students, SkillShare is aimed at helping talented amateurs make a fantastic career out of teaching.
This website is very focused on the student and teacher parts of the equation. As an eLearning tool, it’s not quite as practiced as Siminars or Udemy, but there’s a lot of heart and soul that’s obviously gone into the SkillShare model of business.
SkillShare.com also has a strong emphasis on learning and working in the community. If this is important to you, you may want to consider using this platform as a way to sell your lessons—or take a class. There are classes for almost every subject imaginable.

SkillShare may rank #5, but it still holds a special place in our hearts. SkillShare
- SkillShare.com eLearning Tool: Summary Overview?
For our SkillShare review, we were pleasantly surprised by the ease of use of the website. It’s full of nice, clean elements, and is easy to navigate. When we signed up to take courses, we were equally impressed by the quality of instructors.
We were definitely aware that the instructors we had were more on the amateur side, but there were some fantastic lessons offered all the same. The lower fees and lower requirements for teachers mean that it’s possible for all kinds of people to teach classes, and there are definite benefits to that kind of approach for eLearning platforms.
- SkillShare.com: Who It’s For
SkillShare.com is a great website for individual teachers, coaches, and students. It’s very focused on letting students learn to do things “at their own pace.” When a class starts, students are allowed to enroll at any time, and no class ever ends. By signing up for a class, you are buying access to lifetime materials for whatever class you choose. Given how many classes are available, that’s a fantastic deal for anyone. Plus, a very large number of the classes offered on SkillShare are free.
This is a great option for people who feel that they were “failed” by traditional education to try and learn some skills without the pressures of the classroom. While tests and exams do exist, the emphasis of SkillShare.com is not on them, but on individual work.
- SkillShare.com: Core eLearning Features
The core principle of SkillShare.com seems to be focused not just on eLearning as a whole, but on the idea of peer community. The entire SkillShare.com community is focused on sharing information, whether for free or for payment, and it shows.
Most of the “assignments” aren’t really individual assignments, but group projects that you work on with strangers. For anyone who hated group projects in school, consider this: in school, group projects always meant that the kids who cared were pulling the weight of the kids who didn’t. When education is entirely voluntary, such as on SkillShare.com, everyone has incentive to care, or they wouldn’t be there.
Given that so much of it is peer-based, this means that no work is done by the teacher after the initial lesson is uploaded. Teachers simply collect any payments their lesson receives, and are free to make more lessons or pursue other careers.
- SkillShare.com Review: What’s Great About SkillShare.com
SkillShare.com delivers very well on the promise of a community focused on education. This is a tremendous asset to an online community. It means that you’re surrounded by many people who are all entirely focused on learning new and interesting skills.
Another great thing about SkillShare is the sorting and searching algorithm. As a teacher, it’s important to know that the students you want are going to have access to your classes. On some websites, it’s difficult to know how to sort through classes to find the one you want.
On SkillShare.com, you can search by many categories, such as Advertising, Business, Design, Fashion & Style, Film & TV, Food & Drink, Photography, Technology, and Writing & Publishing. Not only can you sort by category, but you can also search by price. You can search by All, $25 and under, and $15 and under. The third algorithm you can apply is sorting by level. You can search for All classes, Intermediate classes, or Beginner classes.
We also love that the prices are so low for each class, significantly lower than Udemy. Over there, we rarely saw classes offered for less than $30, and usually above $60. On SkillShare.com, most of the classes we found were around $20.
This is a great step towards making sure that everyone can see any given lecture. It’s also a great way to get more people to sign up for any class.
Another thing we really like is the option to teach and take local classes. Although this is a fairly new feature, it’s still very interesting. Right now, it’s focused around New York, San Francisco, and Boston. However, we’re confident that the model of using public venues to make a great class work is going to catch on soon all over the world.
For the time being, however, you’ll have to make do with public venues in the USA.
Of course, you can always teach an online class, which costs nothing to you and allows you to teach from your own living room while still reaching millions around the globe.
- SkillShare.com Review: What’s Not So Great About SkillShare.com
If there’s something we don’t really like about SkillShare.com, it’s probably the website itself. It’s sort of boring, neither colorful nor intuitive, and it definitely seems like a website that someone would see at a school’s home page circa 2005.
- SkillShare.com Pricing / Cost Explained
Most SkillShare.com classes are fairly cheap, in comparison to those offered by other institutions of a similar form. This enables lots of people who would otherwise be unable to take these classes to break free of those restrictions and learn brand new skills. Most SkillShare classes are priced around $20.
For students, the stated price is the flat fee, and it grants lifetime access to all that class’s materials. Teachers, on the other hand, get 85% of that fee deposited directly into a PayPal or Stripe account. However, SkillShare.com often runs promotions such as knocking the fee down to 12%, or occasionally offering feeless classes to those students brought in by referrals. This is the plan that pays teachers the best and highest percentage of their earnings that we’ve seen on any website.
The Final Word: SkillShare.com Conclusion
If you have a skill you’d like to share with the world, SkillShare is a fantastic place to get started. It’s a great community that’s very focused on BEING a community, and provides a lot of help and support to its members.
It isn’t quite as well put-together or well thought-out as our top two picks, Udemy and Siminars, but this still makes a pretty decent showing. If you want to be able to give and take classes at the drop of a hat, SkillShare might be for you.
unfortunately my review for skill share has to be negative. my content never did take off on this website and i think is a lot of issues with their site, not me!
Compared to every other elearning hub that I have started using, this one REALLY give you the opportunity to teach your content. It’s great about pushing your information product out there!
NOT a good software for elearning, i have not been able to push my ebooks out on this site very well at all, the course conversions can be really buggy as well
this is not my favorite platform but skill share does have a few perks…you just have to know how to work the site and advertise on your own end to make it happen
A+ rating on my end. I think that this site has a lot of perks and you will see a big increase in traffic after pushing out your content on this site, give it a try!
i read through a lot of reviews before deciding on skillshare.com and i am glad i did! overall my content does great on here and i really enjoy being a teacher, so to speak!
AN AMAZING tool to get your content out there and on the internet. people will be taking you courses in no time and i have had nothing but good feedback about them!
I tried out this site just on a test run and it ended up being pretty good. i think that sometimes formatting can be lost when you are working on your courses but that’s the biggest problem
Not one of the best platforms for elearning out there but it’s worth a try anyway. skill share offers some good advice in getting your courses off the ground and it’s ok about submitting
this isn’t one of the better elearning sites that i have tried. i think it is disorganized, hard to submit content, and in general it takes forever to get things up and running. i do not recommend it.
the only review i can give for this is a big A+! this is a great site and really helped me get my information and content off the ground and into coursework.
I haven’t found ANYTHING that can be compared to this so far. it just does a great job of pushing out my information for me and i have yet to see anything come close
a pretty decent software but nothing i haven’t seen before. i think there are better elearning materials. this one is some of the same stuff but at least it is pretty easy to use!
this is my LEAST favorite platform, i think that skill share really is overrated and that the site really needs some overhauling. it is not as easy to upload your content as you would think!
a negative rating over here. i do not see the appeal of this site when it is such a challenge to get your courses up and running. i will pass on this and go elsewhere.
I read a ton of reviews before diving into skill share and i am so happy that i made the choice to use this one! it is a GREAT site and makes it so easy to churn out content and courses!
an amazing tool that will get your feet wet in an easy and fast manner. i think that my courses look amazing and i am really happy to see so many people taking them!
I just tried this out in a test run and I am pretty happy with the way it all turned out. This is a good, solid site and i really think that i have found a new hub for my books
platforms like this just don’t last…i am surprised that people still use this when there are so many better ones than skill share, this is just not that good
elearning at one of its lowest marks, lol. i really do not think this is a good site and it is difficult to upload quality content and maintain the formatting that you originally set
happy to leave a positive review on skill share! i love the way their system works for uploading course material and i will not use another site from now on!
compared to any other elearning site, this one is still the best! i have consistently used them since i started putting out my ebooks into courses and this is really the best option for me!
i have used a bunch of different elearning software and i keep coming back to this one. it is not without its flaws, however, and sometimes it is a step learning curve
a solid platform but not my favorite. skill share has a lot of flaws and honestly it is just like a bunch of other sites out there, you can do better in a lot of circumstances
a solid rating from me and i think i will be back! this is a great site that helps you upload your information products into courses and i am really happy to see how my courses fill up!
i read so many reviews of this and had so many high hopes but really skill share just falls short. i am not happy with how my course material turned out and i think they have a lot of bugs to fix.
this is a GREAT tool for elearning! i have had no trouble in uploading my content and tweaking it after the fact to get exactly what i want. A++!
I went just to test this out and I ended up really enjoying it. It has a few buggy things about it but that’s easily fixable…I will try a few more sites and see if I come back.
platforms like this are a dime a dozen and skill share is just a copy of every other site out there. pass on this and find one that is actually good.
for elearning i can think of a dozen other sites that are better. this one is just the same old same old and i am not impressed at all.
I LOVE SKILL SHARE!! This is one of the few positive review things I will leave this year but I swear, this one is just great and does everything I need it to do for my ebooks and management!
compared to all the other elearning sites i have gone after, this one really takes the cake. it does everything i need it to do with my content to make it into courses!
if you are familiar with elearning software this will probably be a great site for you. i had a bit of trouble with the learning curve of it all but i will be back to keep using it
for an elearning platform that is just like everything else, skill share is fine. just be aware you can literally find the same thing anywhere and not be impressed
F rating. i am not happy with this site and i feel like it butchers and dumbs down content for the masses. not a big fan and will not be returning.
so many positive reviews and i am happy to join the crowd! skill share is FANTASTIC when it comes to helping me turn my ebooks into actual courses and i could not be happier!
this is an amazing tool to help you push out your content. i love making courses on this website and i could not be happier with the way they look.
I just went to test this out and I did end up enjoying it quite a bit. It seems like a great way to make some extra money with content I already had lying around.
NOT ONE OF THE BETTER PLATFORMS OUT THERE, SAVE YOUR MONEY AND USE ANYTHING OTHER THAN SKILL SHARE. IT REALLY IS A WASTE OF TIME BECAUSE THEY WILL MESS UP YOUR FORMATS AND MAKE IT DIFFICULT FOR YOUR CLIENTS.
for elearning there are so many options but this one is still my favorite. i think it goes above and beyond and is extremely professional every single time.
for my review let me just say that i tried to like skill share but i just couldn’t. it really feels like a copy of EVERY OTHER SITE OUT THERE and i am just not impressed
compared to a bunch of other sites and it still came out on top. i could not be happier with the way my courses look at the end of the day and i will be back to do more
this is a pretty good software though i am not entirely sold on it…i will be trying other ones to see which elearning site works best for me in the long run
my courses didn’t turn out as well on this platform as i had hoped but skill share definitely works for other people and seems pretty solid overall
A++ rating over on my end!!! I really am quite pleased with the way it ends up looking in the end and I will be making a lot more courses with this site in the future!
reviews that praise this place are just eye roll worthy. skill share is the SAME THING AS EVERY OTHER ELEARNING SITE, so try a bunch of others and find something better
this tool has saved my butt so many times when i have been delving into elearning. it is so easy to make new courses on this site and i am always excited to try them out with my clients.
test this site out, you may be surprised. i certainly was though i am still looking around for others. i feel like this site is pretty good for most people, though!
platforms like this are hit and miss but i am pretty ok with skill share. i just don’t feel like it’s the BEST one out there and i have had some formatting issues as well.
elearning is really the same thing over and over these days and this site is no different. you will not find anything new here so don’t waste your time.
A++ on this review. i am so happy that i tried skill share and ended up putting my material on this site. it is so easy to make courses here and i will use them again and again
i have compared this to a ton of other websites and i really think that this goes above and beyond all the other elearning i have tried out. a fantastic site.
for elearning software it is just okay, but i will try and use it again to see how my results look this next time. i am mostly satisfied at least, i just think some of the formatting bugs are annoying
not the platform for me. i think skill share is good for some people but i found it tedious and not really enough money for the amount of effort i put into it.
unfortunately this has to have a low rating on my end. i am not impressed about the way they handle content on this site and i think my courses turned out pretty lackluster.
loving this site and i have to say the reviews about skill share are all over the place for no reason, it’s consistent and awesome, i have had no trouble with my courses!
THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE ELEARNING TOOLS!!! i will not use another platform again, this takes care of all of my needs and makes my content sell fast!
a good test run on my end but i think that it could still use some tweaking. i will try and play with it a bit more to see if i like it later on with some other of my content books
platforms like this are not my favorite at all and skill share demonstrates why in basically duplicating a ton of material you can find ANYWHERE else. i am not impressed.
for elearning this really falls flat. i could jump on any different site and find the exact same thing, pass on this one and find something else
F— review on this one, i am sad about it because i had high hopes for skill share but it is just so difficult to get anything done on their site with sizable content
compared to other sites this one is above and beyond. i am so happy to find a great elearning site to upload my content and sell my courses on!
software like this is usually hit and miss but for me this was a hit the first time out. my only complaint is that i have issues with formatting on a lot of my courses and have to go back and fix it all
this is an ok platform and i really think skill share misses the mark in a lot of circumstances, i just wish that they would stop uploading the same courses over and over
no good rating for me on this site, i really think it falls short of the mark in every way. unfortunately it just makes me upset to know that this site exists and can’t do simple tasks
all the reviews that love skill share…where are you looking? i really don’t think this is anywhere CLOSE to the pinnacle of perfection and it’s just not good
a great tool if you know how to use it! i have had nothing but GREAT responses regarding my courses and i keep having more sign ups every day!
I just went and did this as a test run so i am fresh off the satisfaction chart, lol. overall this is a great site, few problems, just a bit of a learning curve for me.
not among the best elearning platforms i have ever tried. skill share tries to do a lot of things and it doesn’t do any of them particularly well.
for elearning i think that this site could do so much more. i just feel like it falls flat and i am generally annoyed by how my courses turn out, i will not use it again
i really love to review sites and give them a positive review!!! skill share is great about getting my content out in an organized fashion and i really enjoy the amount of revenue i have made
compared to any other elearning hub i have tried this one takes the cake. i have never had so much attention given to my courses as i have here!!!
i have used a lot of elearning software and this one is pretty decent. i have had a few issues with formatting and general customer service lagginess but it isn’t bad!
NOT a good elearning platform and i think that you can find just about anything better to get your courses out there. try again with another site.
unfortunately, this is a negative rating i have to dole out. it just isn’t good and i think for the amount of work you have to put in, the final results should be better.
